Dr Ken Zafren
Ken Zafren, MD, FAAEM, FACEP, FAWM lives in Anchorage, Alaska USA. He is the Associate Medical Director of the Himalayan Rescue Association (Nepal) and a former Vice President of the International Commission for Mountain Emergency Medicine (ICAR MedCom). Dr. Zafren also previously served as the Emergency Programs Medical Director for the State of Alaska and as Medical Director for the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group.
Dr. Zafren is an emergency physician at Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, California USA, where he is also a Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine. He retired last year from his position as a staff emergency physician at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska USA.
Dr. Zafren’s interests include all aspects of mountain medicine, including mountain emergency medicine and mountain rescue, with special emphasis on high altitude and on cold injuries, including hypothermia and frostbite.
