Dr Kyle McLaughlin
Dr. Kyle McLaughlin is an Emergency Medicine Physician based in Canmore, Alberta, located within the Canadian Rockies. He holds a faculty appointment with the University of Calgary Cummings School of Medicine and serves as a medical consultant for Parks Canada Mountain Rescue, providing medical direction for all high-altitude rescue operations on Canada’s highest peak, Mount Logan. Additionally, he is the corporate physician with Canadian Mountain Holiday (CMH) Heli ski and has worked with Avalanche Canada, the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) and Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA).
Dr. McLaughlin is a member of the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR) medical commission, a Sunshine Village ski patrol physician, and a faculty member of the Canadian Society for Mountain Medicine, where he contributes to their Diploma in Mountain Medicine course.
Internationally, Dr. McLaughlin is a frequent lecturer on a diverse range of topics related to wilderness and austere medicine. His extensive research and publications cover his primary interests, including avalanche, high altitude, rescue, and mountain medicine. Notable recent publications include lead author for ICAR/ISMM recommendations on “Pharmacologic Prophylaxis and Oxygen Supplementation for Rapid Ascent Rescue to Very High Altitude” and “Helicopter Rescue at Very High Altitude,” both published in High Altitude Medicine and Biology.
