Mr Nick Wright

As a Lecturer in Mountain Medicine, I lead and teach across a diverse portfolio of credit-bearing and continuing professional development (CPD) modules and courses that span the breadth of mountain and expedition medicine. My academic and professional practice is grounded in inclusive, interprofessional education that not only equips learners with clinical competence but also fosters a strong professional identity and strengthens the clinical-academic partnership within the mountain medicine community.

With a background in paramedic practice and over two decades of experience delivering care in austere and remote environments, I remain operationally active in mountain rescue and have worked across a wide range of international contexts, including Namibia, Mongolia, Patagonia, Dominica, and Scandinavia, supporting expeditions, extreme sports events, and on-location media production. I have also worked in helicopter-based repatriation services and held long-standing roles within UK mountain rescue, including as a regional medical officer and trained to step up to commander levels in times of major incidents. These diverse clinical experiences ensure that my educational content is both evidence-informed and grounded in the realities of high-consequence, low-resource care.I have established collaborative relationships with international rescue services, helicopter emergency service teams and global mountain medicine organisations, facilitating knowledge exchange and curriculum development that reflects global best practices while remaining responsive to local contexts.I am deeply committed to curriculum innovation and widening participation, creating learning opportunities that are accessible, contextually relevant, and academically rigorous.

My current doctoral research (DProf) explores interprofessional education and collaborative practice across international mountain medicine education programmes, with a focus on developing shared pedagogical frameworks that enhance team-based care in high-risk, low-resource settings. This integrated approach reflects my broader aim: to shape and deliver transformative education that prepares practitioners not just to work in challenging environments, but to thrive as collaborative, reflective, and clinically excellent members of the mountain medicine community.
