Dr Steve Roy
Dr. Roy is an intensive care physician and a consultant in high altitude and wilderness medicine. He works in the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the Foothills Medical Center and the University of Calgary in addition to consulting on high altitude and expedition medicine.
In addition to his residencies in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine, he has trained extensively in wilderness and mountain medicine. He has completed three core and subspecialty Diplomas in Mountain Medicine in Canada, the United States and Switzerland as well as a post-graduate Diploma in Remote and Offshore Medicine through the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Dr. Roy has experience on high-altitude expeditions and mountaineering in the Himalayas, the Alps, the Rockies, and the Andes. He has worked on the technical and medical side of Search and Rescue with experience in Alberta, Ontario, & Quebec. He is co-program director of the WildernessMD/McGill University Resident Physician Elective in Wilderness Medicine and director of the subspecialty Diploma in Wilderness & Expedition Medicine. Dr. Roy sits on the Medical Commission of the International Commission of Alpine Rescue, the UIAA Medical Committee, the Aerospace Medical Society Education & Training Committee, the Canadian Association of Wilderness Medicine Education Committee, and the Executive Committee of the International Society for Mountain Medicine.
