Urs Hefti
Urs Hefti, specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery, specializing in sports medicine, chief physician at the Swiss Sportclinic in Bern.
President of the Medical Commission of the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA), board member oft he Swiss Society for Mountain Medicine for many years.
Under his leadership, doctors have been trained in expedition and wilderness medicine since 2003. He also worked for 10 years for the Swiss Air Rescue Service (REGA) as an emergency doctor on a helicopter in the Bernese Oberland.
In 1998, he worked as a doctor with the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) in Pheriche, Nepal. Since then, he has led five scientific research expeditions (Shisha Pangma/Tibet, Muztagh Ata/China, Pik Lenin/Kyrgyzstan, Himlung Himal/Nepal, Mera Peak/Nepal) and climbed various high mountains on several continents, including the 8046 m high summit of Shisha Pangma.
He lives with his wife Jacqueline Pichler Hefti, a pulmonologist, and their two children Filippa (8) and Gion (11) and the Dog Pops in Bern, Switzerland.
